British Standard disabled refuge alarm systems
Our disabled refuge systems include emergency voice communication, which is now a requirement for many of commercial and public buildings. And, of course, all our disabled refuge systems meet British Standard BS 5839-9.
Commercial and public buildings have a duty to ensure the safe evacuation of people during an emergency.
Fires or other emergency evacuations could leave some people trapped – especially if the lifts have to be shut down, and it’s not possible for them to leave the building as they normally would.
The disabled refuge allows for an emergency voice communication system, linked in to the emergency services, which provides them with constant contact to the disabled refuge and the people needing assistance inside.

Since the introduction of the Disability Discrimination Act, many commercial and public buildings have made the required alterations to make sure that access to their buildings and services is available to all.
