Rangemore Hall Fire Alarm Upgrade, Staffordshire
The challenge
The existing fire alarm system had originally been installed by another provider. Following a fault affecting the wired part of the system, further concerns were identified during servicing, including problems with the standby batteries.
A review of the property's fire and fire-door risk assessments was subsequently required. The company carrying out the fire risk assessment recommended Justice Fire & Security to Rangemore Hall's Property Manager, Richard, as a specialist capable of taking over, upgrading and maintaining the existing fire alarm system.
The system needed to provide reliable fire protection for residents while working within a historic residential building. This required a practical and sensitive approach that addressed the technical requirements without unnecessary disruption to the property.
Our solution
Justice Fire & Security began the fire alarm system takeover with a thorough investigation of the existing installation. We then produced a detailed report identifying the components that needed to be replaced or upgraded to meet the system's requirements and support ongoing compliance.
As part of the fire alarm upgrade, we replaced the wired fire alarm control panel with an eight-zone C-TEC conventional panel and integrated it with the existing wireless panel.
We also added remote signalling to our Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), enabling alarm events to be monitored remotely and providing an additional layer of protection for the property.
Justice Fire & Security now provides ongoing fire alarm maintenance and monitoring for the system, helping to ensure the installation remains reliable and fit for purpose.
Location: Rangemore, near Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire
Project: Fire alarm system takeover and upgrade
Background
Set within 16 acres, Rangemore Hall was originally built as a country residence for the head of a major brewing company. The property was substantially extended around the turn of the 20th century and hosted King Edward VII on more than one occasion.
In later years, Rangemore Hall became a school for children with partial hearing loss before being converted into a residential development. Today, the historic property comprises stylish and spacious apartments arranged across eight separate wings.
Justice Fire & Security is responsible for the fire alarm system within the Main Hall, which contains six apartments across three floors. Due to the building's layout and historic fabric, including several ornate ceilings, the fire alarm installation combines both wired and wireless equipment.
The Results
Following the upgrade, the fire alarm system was restored to full operation and made easier for residents to manage.
The combination of upgraded wired equipment, the existing wireless system and remote alarm monitoring provides Rangemore Hall with a more reliable and manageable fire alarm solution, while respecting the character and constraints of the historic building.
Rangemore Hall Property Manager, Richard, described Justice Fire & Security as being "worth their weight in gold.". He said:
"The engineers were very accommodating and knowledgeable, and they seemed genuinely happy to help and provide the improvements we needed. They took a very common-sense approach to their work.
"The system is very easy for residents to reset, which is extremely important. I can say with complete confidence that I would be very happy to recommend Justice to anyone, and I hope we stay together for many, many years."
