For businesses of all shapes and sizes, access control systems are a highly effective way of making sure only people with genuine reason are on your premises.
It’s amazing just how many commercial operations today use access control for their security. If you’ve ever had reason to visit a company premises, you will have almost certainly come across one of these systems somewhere along the line.
Why Modern Businesses Are Moving Beyond the Traditional Lock and Key
Fundamentally, they’ve taken the standard lock and key to a whole new level, providing a much more streamlined and efficient way of controlling access to and from a building or an area of a building. And so much more cost effective than having manned security.
Whether you need to protect entry to a warehouse, office block or public building, such as a hospital or school, we are confident that the range of access control equipment we have available will comfortably handle all your commercial requirements.
What Types of Commercial Access Control Systems Are There?
Our available access control systems range from a basic single door right through to multi-door, multi-site systems. There are basically three different types of access control system on the market.
1. Simple Audio/Video
These are ideal if you only have one or two doors that need controlling. The system has an outside panel, where the person looking to gain entry presses a button and audio device. This triggers a telephone type handset inside, at which point the operator can release the door to the visitor.
If you’d prefer to see the person at the door before letting them in, you can also have a camera fitted with these units.
Easy to install and simple to operate, so that authorised personnel can let themselves in without restriction, these units can be fitted with a keypad or proximity reader, so you can enter the building without being treated like a visitor!
2. Standalone Systems
The most straightforward standalone security systems consist of a keypad or proximity reader alongside the door it controls. The equipment itself is located on the inside of the door that’s being secured. Authorised users input a code or present their card or tag to the reader, to gain access.
3. Networked Systems
If you have three or more doors which need controlling, then a PC based networked system will be the most appropriate option. These systems are far more sophisticated than the other two versions:
logging who is in the building and what time they entered and left
controlling different doors at different times and days
limiting certain people to certain areas or blocking swipe cards completely to stop entry, e.g., to former employees if they have left without returning their swipe.
Networked systems are modular, which means they can be expanded to many hundreds and even thousands of doors across separate buildings - even if they are in separate geographical areas or different countries. All this can be controlled and monitored from one central point or mobile, via smart phone or Tablet.
They can also be networked via standard computers and integrated with CCTV and a Remote Video Receiving Centre (RVRC).
Regular downloading the logs of swipe activity onto a PC is recommended and it allows you to review activity going back at least 30 days, depending on the system. These logs can be used in correlation with CCTV to trace any unwanted persons in the premises.
